This is one of my favorite articles from the Shaklee 180® Program.

The Importance of Protein

"You may have heard that it is important to get enough protein, but most people don't understand just how important protein is for our bodies. It is important that you get enough every day to meet your needs.

Unlike carbohydrates, proteins are not stored in the body (unless you consider muscles to be storage). They are made up of long chains of amino acids. These individual amino acids are released during digestion then used by our bodies.

Let's take a look at what proteins do for us:

Proteins make up every cell in your body and are especially important for the development and maintenance of muscles.
Hair and nails are mostly made of proteins.
Proteins are essential for building and repairing the entire body.
Proteins help make enzymes and hormones.
Proteins are the backbone of the brain chemicals serotonin, norepinephrine, and dopamine.

Proteins also help us feel full and should be a part of most of our meals. Somewhere between 20 and 30 grams of protein is enough to kick in the hunger fighting power of protein. This is especially helpful when protein is eaten in the morning; restricting protein will increase hunger. (1)

Here are some good choices for protein:

Fish: Fish is a good combination of protein and essential fatty acids (omega-3).
Poultry and Lean Meats: Grass-fed beef and chicken are good choices.
Beans: Beans contain both protein and fiber a double-punch for feeling full.
Nuts: An ounce of almonds contains six grams of protein.
Other: Even skim milk, which contains protein, is a better choice than a sugary drink."

One of my favorite go-to's is Shaklee's Instant Protein® Soy Mix.   Instant Protein® Soy Mix can be added to your favorite recipes to help make soy a part of your family’s diet. As part of a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol, 25 grams of soy protein per day may reduce the risk of heart disease. Each serving contains 16 grams of non-GMO protein and less than one gram of carbohydrates.

I have personally used a variety of Shaklee Protein products for over 10 years now and have benefited immensely. Being hypoglycemic, I need to keep my protein levels up and the carbs lower.  Utilizing the Shaklee 180® products, along side of many of the other Shaklee protein options, have made the difference!  I hope you enjoy this article as much as I.
